Regency wedding dress

ornamented with silk flowers

Period: Romantic, 1805

This Regency wedding dress, modelled on an original from the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, is made of hand-woven antique white silk. The side panels and the train are edged in delicate metal braid and decorated with numerous silk flowers in the form of historical florets.
The high-set bodice has a front flap under which the dress can be buttoned up. This underlying insert also lifts the bust to create the silhouette typical of Regency fashion.
