Period: around 1840, Germany
This off-the-shoulder Biedermeier dress was created for a piano recital. The rare antique brocade fabric dates from the 19th century. Roses, flower garlands and tendrils in antique gold form the pattern on a red background.
The bodice is reinforced and fitted with bodice stays. In addition, a corset and a flounced underskirt create the appropriate silhouette. The pleated collar, which tapers to the front and back and leaves the shoulders bare, is typical of this period.
