Dress

made of Stinging nettle linen fabric

Brennnesselkostüm vorn

The material of this dress has been made from a mixture of cotton (warp yarn) and stinging nettle (weft yarn). This fabric is suited for simple peasant costumes as well as for dresses of the upper classes. Through its silky appearance and its unique fall, which is due to the stinging nettle fibers, the dress itself can be designed in many different ways with the appropriate accessories. The following are just a few examples.

The cut is authentic to the greatest possible extent, i.e. there are no cross seams and the dress' width is realized through gores, i.e. triangular fabric pieces. The gown is laced on the back with cords. The old Romans were already aware of stinging nettle fabrics. The material continued to be used for many centuries.
