Crinoline dress

from "Les Modes Parisiennes"

Period: Late Romantic period, around 1850

This ball gown is based upon a drawing from the fashion magazine "Les Modes Parisiennes" from the year 1853. The top on the other hand was inspired by the famous portray of Princess Carolath from 1855.

We reproduced this dress from light blue, hand-woven raw silk and trimmed it with faceted glass stones. Bertha collar (Victorian collar with décolletage adornment) and sleeves were edged with antique tulle lace.

Distinctive of that time is the multi-tiered skirt under which women wore a crinoline (petticoat). A corset ensures a slender waist.
